I like the neutral colors with these textures.

Entretemps is a collection of a hat, scarf and a large, reversible, L- or V-shaped shawl, worked in entrelac with textured squares.

The entretemps shawl or wrap is made out of squares that have the same easily memorized stitch pattern. The use of increases, decreases and the joins of the squares give the shawl a dynamic third dimension with playful, organic shapes and interesting textures.

The stitch pattern is charted and written.

Size
at the given gauge, wing length (in the center of the wing from the center to the tip) = ± 105 cm / 41½”
width per wing: ± 45 cm / 17¾”

What you’ll need
worsted / 10 ply
Yardage will depend on size of the shawl.
As pictured:
± 1200 m / 1320 yards
5 mm (US 8) needles
two 5 mm (US 8) double pointed needles to work the final I-cord
tapestry needle
4 markers if you wish to place them between the squares (optional)

Entretemps hat is worked with the same squares as the shawl, only a bit smaller.

Just as the shawl, the use of increases, decreases and the joins of the squares give the hat that dynamic third dimension and swirly shape.

The stitch pattern is both charted and written.

What you’ll need
sport weight / 5 ply
± 230 to 300 m / 250 to 330 yards

3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle
3 mm (US 2½) circular needle
crochet hook for the cast on
tapestry needle
1 distinctive marker to mark the end of rounds (BOR) and 7 markers to place between repeats if you wish to do so

One size for other sizes see ‘a note on gauge and size’ below
to fit head circumference: 54 – 58 cm / 21¼ – 22¾ “
finished measurement at the brim (slightly stretched): 50 cm / 19½”

unblocked garter stitch
22.5 sts and 21 ridges (or 42 rows)

A note on gauge and size
For a larger head circumference you will need a larger needle and DK weight at a gauge of 21 sts and 19 ridges (38 rows).
The finished measurement at the brim is 54 cm / 21¼” and fits a head of 57 to 63 cm / 22½” to 24¾”

For a smaller head circumference you will need a smaller needle and fingering weight at a gauge of 24 sts and 22 ridges (44 rows).
The finished measurement at the brim will be 47 cm / 18½” and fits a head of 50 to 54 cm / 19½” to 21¼”

Entretemps scarf is made out of squares with a seed stitch motif on a purled background. The design looks very intricate, but it is easy peasy.

The stitch pattern is charted and written.

Can easily be altered by working more or less repeats.

# 7 is a large, asymmetrical shawl with a triangular shape.

It is worked sideways and starts with an I-cord 4 stitches wide. The body is worked in garter stitch with delicate lacey leaves shaping the bottom edges.
The scalloped edge is formed by leaf tips that stick out. They are worked using German short rows aka double stitches.

The lace and the garter stitch body make it an easy project, but it needs your attention because of the increases and decreases that shape the shawl and the leaves.

Sizes
one size easily adaptable. It can be made as a large wrap or a smaller shawlette.

#8 are individual leaves. Make the leaves in all kinds of little rests in different colors to finish off a hat or embellish your knitwear. Make a whole bunch of leaves and sew them together into a spring garland to decorate a wall. The possibilities are endless. The size of a leaf using fingering weight and 3 mm (US 2½) needles is 7 x 3.5 cm (2¾ x 1¼”) and it uses only 5 to 6 m / 5½ to 6½ yards.

What you’ll need
any yarn weight: little rests in different colors.
One leaf in fingering weight uses about 5 m / 5½ yards. In heavier yarn weights it is a little more.

Today bloX and triX are out. Two large, reversible, extra soft and squishy shawls with a generous size and ‘syncopated’ brioche stitch patterns.

this is bloX

bloX is – as its name says – made of 2-color blocks. It is worked sideways and it has a triangular shape.

A schematic is included to play with color and bloX and make up your own bloX design.

The brioche stitch patterns are written out (no charts).

Size: as pictured with a sport weight yarn / 5 ply and 3.5 mm (US 3) needles: wingspan : ± 175 cm /69” and depth : ± 77 cm / 30”

What you’ll need

An equal amount of both colors (A and B)
each: ± 700 m / 770 yards
3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle
3.5 mm (US 4) 2 double pointed needles for the I-cord cast on and bind off (optional)

with triangular shapes. It is also worked sideways and it has a large V- or boomerang shape. The sample is knit with a DK weight but it can easily be knit in a lighter yarn weight with the same needle size or a smaller size. It will give a lightweight, summery and airy shawl, but it will be smaller. That should be no problem because one can add a motif or add stitches to the motifs to make them larger.

Size with DK weight and 4mm / US 6 needles at the given gauge, wingspan = ± 180 cm / 71”, depth: ± 50 cm / 9½”
With a lace weight or fingering weight it will be much smaller but it can easily be altered adding more stitches per motif or adding motifs.

Today a collection of 2 large shawls has been published.

Stripeology is a collection of 2 large garter shawls with a generous size … and jazzy feel. As a jazz player would pick a ‘Jazz standard’ and improvise on the melody, this modular shawl gives you the fun and opportunity to play with rhythm (the stripes) and improvise the colors.

Stripeology #1 has a circular spiral shape (diameter ± 90 cm / 35½” and a depth going from ± 32 to 44 cm / 12½ to 17¼”.
It is a very easy and fun project, ideal for mindless TV or travel knitting and a great way to use up stash yarns and combine colors. All the fun comes from choosing the next color and striping sequence. Completely worked in garter stitch with an incorporated I-cord edging worked at the same time. Only 5 purl stitches ^^ The first section is shaped using kfb increases. The next sections are worked using the easiest way of wrap and turn (no picking up any wraps)

Stripeology #2 has a crescent shape with a wingspan of ± 130 cm / 51” and it involves more techniques than stripeology #1: stitches will be picked up & knitted along an I-cord and it also makes use of a 3 needle bind off. Completely worked in garter stitch with an incorporated I-cord edging worked at the same time. Only 5 purl stitches ^^ The first section is shaped using kfb increases. The second section involves picking up stitches from the I-cord and the following sections are worked using the easiest way of wrap and turn (no picking up any wraps). Finally the shawl is bound off using a 3 needle bind off.

The pics of pasOdoble‘s sister: pasOsolo

I have been playing a bit more with the construction of ‘something’ (hat and cowl). I wrote about them here in a previous post. And came up with this: pasOdoble and pasOsolo: 2 shawls/wraps with a fun construction.

Their special construction to build the swirls at the end are easy and very simple to do.

pasOdoble is a symmetrical shawl with swirls on both ends.

pasOsolo is assymetrical with a round swirl on one end and a point on the other.

I worked them back and forth, but it is also kind of in the round in 1 piece and completely seamless. And another good news is : I didn’t have to purl…. at all.
